Hall Villa
Located in the historic township of Greytown, this project involved the sensitive conservation and contemporary expansion of a classic heritage villa. Characterized by its strict local planning overlays, the brief required a design solution that could introduce modern functional spaces without compromising the historic fabric or streetscape presence of the original hall.
Our response relies on the concept of "sibling architecture"—establishing a clear structural separation between the old and the new. The new pavilion extension does not attempt to mimic the past like-for-like, nor does it overshadow it. Instead, it respects the historic building through subtle, deliberate variations in proportion, massing, and window mullion detailing. By maintaining a lower roofline and a recessed connection link, the new addition reads as a complementary, modern companion that lets the original building remain the primary anchor on the site.
A key component of the project was the reconstruction of the traditional veranda interface. Designed with precise structural logic and historical accuracy, the completed veranda has been formally adopted by the local Heritage Board as an official benchmark example for character integration within the region. The finished project demonstrates how a highly disciplined architectural approach can successfully bridge the gap between strict heritage preservation and modern, functional living.
