Castleton House
This project involved the architectural addition to of an existing Lockwood residence situated on an steep bush site. Lockwood structures present a distinct construction logic that can be highly restrictive to alter. Rather than attempting to replicate the original solid-timber build, the design strategy utilizes a contemporary contrasting extension for a new master bedroom wing and integrated garaging.
To manage the threshold between two different architectural styles and structural systems we created a hallway transition point, cleanly separating two forms. This layout rationalizes the circulation of the home, transforming the arrival sequence into a deliberate journey between the original structure and the new private wing.
To connect the expanded footprint with its native surroundings, a new timber deck was integrated into the layout, and new glass doors were installed to open out onto this space.
