A renovation breathes new life into a house. This particular home was no different to many others in its local area, in that it had a great solid stucture and had sheltered families well over the years since its construction in the 1970s. It was due for a renovation, and we worked with its current owners to revitalise the spaces and make it work for their lifestyle and their love of reading.
The images show the difference in the kitchen area (although on this project there was also work on a new deck, bedroom, ensuite, and storage downstairs). We removed internal walls and opened up the space to encourage the natural light to illuminate the room, we left the existing windows where they were and developed schemes that respected the proportions and style of the house. Our kitchen design for them included the integration of a window seat (with storage beneath) to make the most of the morning light. The clients chose their favourite colours as accents for the splash back and cushions. It gives a vibrant and fresh feel to the room, and makes it uniquely theirs.
What the images don't show is the difference it has made to the way life flows around the space on a daily basis, how it has given them a place for everything, and made it easy for them to keep it feeling calm and relaxing in their busy lives.
Renovations involve many hands to bring them to completion, from the client, the contractors, subcontractors, cabinet makers, engineers and architect - everyones contribution is important to its success. We love being a part of this process, and seeing the transforming quality that great design can have on daily life.
