This wet 'four seasons' weekend was the first chance to experiment with a few new cake recipes and stock up the baking tins after a busy week in the studio. Warm and snug in the kitchen, my daughter and I enjoyed making Florentine Slice together (a recipe by Annabel Langbein). This has a beautiful blended oat & wholemeal flour base with an amazing dried fruit, chocolate and nut topping. (Technically we needed dried apricots, but a few cranberries seemed to work well instead!). My little Miss 7 is not only familiar with baking techniques by now, but can also take a photo with the camera and taste test the mixing bowl at the same time.... no idea where she got that from....
Some friends popped in for a cup of tea that afternoon, it's not everyday that I have an amazing cake ready and waiting ... perfect timing and definately a cake worth sharing!
(You can find this recipe in the latest Annabel Langbein "Through the Seasons" book).
